Whale watching charters heading out from Maalaea Harbor and Lahaina Harbor
The search is one to fine
the amazing humpback whales.

Maui is known as one of the world’s premium destination to watch humpback whales and there mating rituals. Its estimated over 5,000 humpback whales arrive in Hawaii each winter.   The magnificent whales weigh in around 80,000 lbs. and travel over 2,500 miles from Alaska to Hawaii.  We took two amazing whale watching charters out of Maalaea Harbor and Lahaina Harbor. Actually the charter from Maalaea Harbor was to Molokini Crater but the captain stopped the boat to view Humpback Whales both there and back.  The Maalaea Harbor snorkeling and turtle town charter was on Frogman 11 out of slip 87 ;)   Great crew and captain! They served hot coffee, tea, breakfast and a barbecue lunch after the snorkel. Oh yes, bring dollar notes, they make the best $1 Mia Tis on the island.

These photos were taken on an ocean raft excursion from Lahaina Harbor.  I believe it was called Ocean Rafting. What a magnificent display and having a front row seat made it awesome.

This was the best time I’ve ever had with a camera.  When you go down to Lahaina Harbor you’ll see the small ocean rafts. Actually, they are still over 30 ft in length and very stable they just look smaller up against some of the bigger boats. The captain mentioned he has over 30 years experience in whale watching. It was a small group of around 8 people so we had lots of room.   It was an amazing 2 hours of whale watching and photography. Other boats seem to follow the giant whales around at the proper distance of course.  We were just sitting patiently when the giant Gray Humpback Whales started showing up all around us.

We must have seen 3 different families within 2 hours and took pictures of whales breaching, tails in the air, splashing around and a few came as close as 30 yards from the boat.  We were just sitting at the time in awe.
