The Atlantis Submarine Adventure
It's an Adventure, it's educational,
it's safe, it's fun but most of all it's entertaining!  Located at
Lahaina
Harbor
Slip #18. If you've ever seen the movie "The Hunt for Red October", you'll be fascinated to know the Atlantis Submarine Adventure will remind you of that.

I think the  words "DIVE, DIVE, DIVE"! begins your spectacular underwater sea journey.

We departed at Lahaina Harbor on a shuttle vessel Holokai and were transported to the Atlantis dive site.  The sub arrived and we transferred very carefully on to the top of it.  We were met by the crew (a very entertaining crew I might add) and were asked to turn around and walk backwards down the stairs.  Once we were all settled in front of our port holes I couldn't but notice where the captain was sitting. He was pretty much surrounded in glass and controls.  He had the most spectacular view of the ocean floor and all the habitat at his fingertips.

I noticed right away the air conditioning. I am not a person that gets antsy in confined spaces but I know it would help if someone was. Its hard to remember everybody’s name as you are out touring about but this guy we had was awesome. He knew every species of all the exotic sea creatures. The colors were phenomenal.  Beautiful and bright. As a matter of fact he mentions the color chart hanging on each port hole for our viewing. When we submerged the sea water filters each color of the sunlight.  Red is the first color to break down. It will begin to look purple. The color orange is next to break down as you move into deeper water and begins to look yellow. At around 60 feet the color yellow will appear to be green.  And at 90 feet green begins to look blue. Really neat to see.  Lots of jokes, songs and movie references made along this journey.  It is truly a fun time.

As we moved along the blue ocean floor our tour guide is pointing out several different variety's of exotic fish species.  We saw Manta Rays, Peacock colored parrot fish, moray eels and candy striped squirrel fish just to name a few.  There is also a fish chart there for you to refer to. These guys didn't miss much. There were natural reefs, man-made reefs and the most interesting was the sunken ship the Carthaginian.

As we made our way back to the surface it made us realize why we need to protect our undersea environment through exploration, research and preservation because it is truly the most spectacular natural habitat we've ever had the pleasure of seeing.
